Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) chief Arvind Kejriwal on Monday heaped praise on Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M. K. Stalin, calling him an exceptional leader and expressing strong support for his leadership ahead of the crucial Assembly elections in the state.
Speaking during his visit to Tamil Nadu as part of the election campaign, Kejriwal said that leaders like Stalin are rare in Indian politics. “You will not get a leader like him,” he remarked, highlighting Stalin’s governance model and welfare-oriented policies. The AAP has extended its support to the DMK-led alliance in the ongoing polls, even though it is not contesting directly.
Kejriwal, who arrived in Chennai to campaign for the ruling Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK), also participated in roadshows and public outreach programmes alongside Stalin. The joint appearances are being seen as a show of opposition unity, particularly among parties aligned under the broader INDIA bloc.
During his interaction with the media, Kejriwal emphasized that both he and Stalin share a similar vision in key sectors such as education, healthcare, and women’s empowerment. He noted that Tamil Nadu has witnessed “significant development” under Stalin’s leadership over the past five years, and expressed confidence that the DMK government would return to power with a strong mandate.
The AAP leader further stated that governance in Tamil Nadu under Stalin has brought tangible improvements in people’s lives, especially in social welfare sectors. He added that continued leadership by Stalin would ensure that the state remains on a progressive path and achieves further growth in the coming years.
Kejriwal also took an indirect swipe at rival alliances, warning that a government formed by the AIADMK-BJP combine could slow down the state’s development. His remarks underline the broader political contest in Tamil Nadu, where national and regional parties are intensifying campaigns ahead of polling.
The Tamil Nadu Assembly elections have witnessed high-pitched campaigning, with major parties focusing on governance, regional identity, and federal issues such as delimitation. The support extended by AAP to the DMK is seen as a strategic move to consolidate opposition forces against the BJP.
With campaigning entering its final phase, Kejriwal’s endorsement adds momentum to Stalin’s campaign, reinforcing the narrative of experienced leadership and welfare-driven governance as key electoral themes in the state.
