A unique and colourful scene unfolded at the Kerala Assembly on Thursday as newly elected MLAs arrived for the swearing-in ceremony using different modes of transport, including walking, bicycles and private vehicles.
Several legislators drew public attention by choosing simple and unconventional ways to reach the Assembly complex. Some MLAs walked to the venue from nearby locations, while a few others arrived on bicycles, highlighting messages of simplicity, environmental awareness and connection with ordinary people.
Visuals from the Assembly premises showed leaders greeting supporters and interacting with the public before entering the building for the oath-taking ceremony. The atmosphere remained festive as party workers and well-wishers gathered outside to welcome the newly elected representatives.
Among those who arrived on bicycles were younger legislators and first-time MLAs, who said they wanted to send a message promoting eco-friendly transport and a people-centric political culture. Some senior leaders, however, reached the Assembly in official or private vehicles amid tight security arrangements.
The swearing-in ceremony marked the beginning of the new legislative term following the recently concluded Kerala Assembly elections. MLAs took oath in Malayalam and other languages in the presence of senior Assembly officials and political leaders.
Security arrangements around the Assembly complex were heightened to manage crowds and ensure smooth movement during the ceremony. Traffic restrictions were also imposed in parts of Thiruvananthapuram due to the event.
The varied modes of arrival by legislators quickly became a talking point on social media, with many praising the symbolic gestures and informal approach adopted by some of the elected representatives.
