Trinamool Congress (TMC) MLA Kunal Ghosh has said that West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and the Trinamool Congress have repeatedly opposed the manner in which the Delhi Police handled student protests, alleging that the force acted unfairly against young demonstrators demanding justice.
Speaking to the media, Ghosh said, “We, Mamata Banerjee and the Trinamool Congress, have repeatedly stated that we oppose the way in which the Delhi Police has taken action against students. This is happening repeatedly.” He also alleged that police functioning under the Union Home Ministry attempts to suppress people whenever they raise legitimate demands.
His remarks come amid the continuing political row over the police crackdown on student protests linked to the NEET examination controversy. The TMC has been vocal in condemning the use of force and has extended support to the Opposition's demand for accountability over the police action.
Mamata Banerjee has previously described the Delhi Police's action against student protesters as "unacceptable" and expressed solidarity with the Opposition's protests over the issue. She has maintained that peaceful demonstrations should not be met with excessive force and has accused the BJP-led Centre of intimidating students raising concerns about the examination system.
The controversy continues to dominate political discourse, with Opposition parties demanding a parliamentary discussion on the alleged police excesses, while the Centre has defended its handling of the protests and highlighted ongoing reforms to strengthen the examination system.
