The Left Front has announced a major protest rally in Kolkata against alleged attacks on workers, opposition supporters, and common people following the declaration of the West Bengal Assembly election results.
Leaders of the Left Front claimed that incidents of intimidation, violence, and political targeting have increased in several parts of the state after the election outcome. They alleged that many workers belonging to opposition parties were facing threats, assaults, and pressure to leave their homes in different districts.
According to party leaders, the rally will be organised in central Kolkata and will witness participation from leaders and supporters of various Left parties. The protest aims to highlight what the Left Front described as a “deteriorating democratic atmosphere” in the state after the polls.
Senior Left leaders said the demonstration would also focus on issues affecting working-class people, including unemployment, inflation, labour rights, and alleged political harassment. They accused the ruling establishment of failing to ensure safety and democratic rights for ordinary citizens and opposition supporters.
The Left Front further alleged that workers associated with trade unions and grassroots organisations were being targeted in some districts after the results were announced. Party leaders claimed several local offices had been vandalised and many supporters were living in fear.
Meanwhile, the ruling party has denied the allegations and accused opposition parties of spreading misinformation for political purposes. Leaders from the ruling camp claimed that isolated incidents were being exaggerated to create unnecessary tension in the state.
Police officials said security arrangements would be strengthened in Kolkata during the rally to maintain law and order. Authorities are expected to deploy additional personnel in sensitive areas to avoid any untoward incidents during the protest march.
Political tension has remained high across several districts of West Bengal since the Assembly election results were declared. Different opposition parties, including the Left Front, Congress, and BJP, have repeatedly alleged post-poll violence and attacks on their workers.
The upcoming protest rally is likely to intensify the political atmosphere in the state further, with opposition parties attempting to corner the government over law and order and allegations of political violence.
