Domestic Violence on the Rise in India

Domestic violence is on the rise in India. According to the National Commission for Women, over 6,900 complaints of domestic violence were filed in 2022. This is a significant increase from the number of complaints filed in previous years.

There are many reasons for the rise in domestic violence in India. One reason is the traditional patriarchal values that still exist in many parts of the country. These values often lead to women being seen as inferior to men and being treated as property.

Another reason for the rise in domestic violence is the lack of awareness about the issue. Many people in India do not understand what constitutes domestic violence and do not know where to get help if they are experiencing it.

The government of India has taken some steps to address the issue of domestic violence. In 2005, the Protection of Women from Domestic Violence Act was passed. This law provides legal protection to women who are victims of domestic violence.

However, more needs to be done to address the issue of domestic violence in India. The government needs to raise awareness about the issue and provide more resources for victims of domestic violence.

This is a horrific incident of domestic violence. Domestic violence is never the victim's fault. If you or someone you know is experiencing domestic violence, please reach out for help.

Here are some things you can do if you or someone you know is experiencing domestic violence:

1) Reach out for help: There are many resources available, including the Women Helpline (181)  (24×7 open)

2) Create a safety plan:This plan should include things like where you will go if you need to leave your home, who you can call for help, and how you will protect yourself and your children.

3) Document the abuse : This includes keeping a record of the abuse, such as dates, times, and what happened.

4) Stay strong: It is important to remember that you are not alone and that there is help available.
