A man allegedly connected to the Mumbai underworld and Pakistan’s Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) has been arrested by Indian security agencies in a major counter-intelligence operation. The accused, identified as Mohammad Haroon (name as per investigating agencies), was taken into custody following a coordinated operation based on intelligence inputs regarding suspected espionage and anti-national activities.
According to investigators, the accused was allegedly in contact with operatives linked to Pakistan’s ISI and individuals associated with the Mumbai underworld. Security agencies claim he acted as an intermediary, facilitating the exchange of sensitive information and helping maintain communication channels between criminal networks and foreign handlers.
Officials said preliminary investigations revealed that the accused had been under surveillance for some time. Electronic devices, communication records and other materials seized during the operation are being examined to determine the extent of his alleged involvement. Investigators are also probing whether he was part of a larger network operating across multiple states.
Sources in the security establishment indicated that the suspect is believed to have maintained links with underworld figures based outside India and may have been involved in activities aimed at gathering information of strategic importance. Agencies are examining financial transactions, travel records and digital communications to establish possible foreign connections and identify other individuals linked to the network.
The arrest comes amid heightened vigilance by intelligence and law-enforcement agencies over attempts by hostile elements to use criminal syndicates for espionage, recruitment and the transfer of funds. Officials have reiterated that such networks pose a significant threat to national security because they combine organized crime with foreign intelligence operations.
The accused has been produced before a court and remanded for further questioning. Investigators are expected to seek additional custody as they continue to analyze evidence and track potential associates. Authorities have not ruled out further arrests as the probe progresses.
Security agencies have so far not disclosed all operational details, citing the sensitive nature of the investigation. However, officials described the arrest as a significant breakthrough in efforts to dismantle networks allegedly linking organized crime groups with foreign intelligence agencies.
The investigation remains ongoing, and authorities are expected to provide more information as evidence is verified and additional leads are pursued.
