Manipur Home Minister Govindas Konthoujam on Thursday held a high-level security review meeting with Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) Director General G.P. Singh to assess the law and order situation in the state following the recent ambush that claimed the lives of two Assam Rifles personnel. The meeting focused on strengthening security operations and preventing further violence in the conflict-hit state.
Speaking after the meeting, Konthoujam said the state government is reassessing its security strategy and plans to adopt a new operational approach to deal with armed groups. He stressed that the government's priority is to ensure the safety of civilians while taking firm action against those responsible for violence.
The CRPF chief, who is currently in Manipur, reviewed the ground situation with senior officers and discussed measures to improve coordination among the CRPF, Manipur Police, Assam Rifles and other central security agencies. Officials also reviewed intelligence inputs, ongoing operations and deployment patterns in sensitive districts.
According to officials, the Centre has decided to intensify operations by deploying the CRPF's elite CoBRA (Commando Battalion for Resolute Action) units in Manipur. The specialised force, which has extensive experience in counter-insurgency operations, is expected to lead targeted missions against armed groups. Authorities will also focus on recovering looted weapons, dismantling illegal bunkers and restoring normalcy in violence-affected areas.
The review comes days after a deadly ambush on an Assam Rifles convoy in Ukhrul district, which prompted a massive joint operation involving the Army, Assam Rifles, CRPF and Manipur Police. Security forces have since intensified search operations across several districts to track down those responsible for the attack.
The state government has reiterated its commitment to restoring peace and ensuring public safety. Officials said security agencies will continue coordinated operations while maintaining close surveillance in vulnerable areas to prevent further incidents.
