Security forces in Manipur have recovered a cache of arms and ammunition during a series of intelligence-based operations in Thoubal district and other parts of the state, while two active insurgent cadres were also arrested as part of the ongoing crackdown on militant activities. The operations were carried out jointly by Manipur Police, Assam Rifles and other security agencies.
According to officials, the security forces conducted search operations based on specific intelligence inputs regarding the movement of insurgent groups and the presence of illegal weapons. During the raids, several firearms, ammunition and other war-like stores were recovered from suspected hideouts. Authorities said the seizures are part of sustained efforts to curb insurgent activities and restore normalcy in the violence-affected state.
In a significant development, two active cadres linked to proscribed militant outfits were apprehended during separate operations. Officials identified one of the arrested individuals as a member of a banned insurgent organization allegedly involved in extortion and other unlawful activities. Security personnel also seized mobile phones and other incriminating materials from the suspects.
Police said the arrested cadres were being interrogated to gather information about their network, sources of weapons and possible links to recent militant activities in the region. Investigators are also trying to determine whether the recovered arms were intended for future attacks or extortion-related operations.
The latest operation comes amid intensified security measures across Manipur, where authorities have been conducting regular search and area domination exercises to recover looted weapons and dismantle insurgent networks. In recent weeks, several militants have been arrested and large quantities of arms and ammunition have been seized in coordinated operations across multiple districts.
Officials said security operations would continue in vulnerable areas to prevent the movement of militants and ensure public safety. The Manipur Police have urged citizens to cooperate with law enforcement agencies and report any suspicious activities that could threaten peace and security.
The recovery of weapons and the arrest of active cadres are being viewed as another important step in the ongoing efforts to curb insurgency and maintain stability in the northeastern state, which has witnessed periodic security challenges over the past few years.
