Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann has rejected the recent edict issued by Akal Takht declaring him “anti-Guru,” describing the allegations as baseless and politically motivated.

Responding to the controversy, Mann claimed that the video cited by religious authorities was being used to spread “false propaganda.” He asserted that the individual seen in the video was not him and accused opponents of attempting to mislead the public through manipulated or misleading content.

The Akal Takht had recently directed Sikhs to distance themselves from Mann, alleging that certain actions and statements attributed to him were disrespectful to Sikh traditions and institutions. The move sparked a political storm in Punjab, drawing reactions from various religious and political groups.

Mann, however, maintained that he has always respected Sikh values and institutions. He said efforts were being made to damage his reputation ahead of important political developments in the state. The Chief Minister further stated that he would continue working for the welfare of Punjab and would not be distracted by what he termed “fabricated controversies.”

Leaders of the ruling Aam Aadmi Party have also come out in support of Mann, arguing that the accusations lack evidence and are aimed at creating political instability. Opposition parties, meanwhile, have demanded clarification from the Chief Minister regarding the issues raised by the Akal Takht.

The controversy has generated intense debate across Punjab, with religious bodies, political leaders and members of the Sikh community expressing differing views on the matter. As of now, there has been no indication that the Akal Takht intends to withdraw or modify its directive.

With both sides standing firm, the dispute is expected to remain a major political and religious issue in Punjab in the coming days.
