A massive fire broke out near the Boileauganj area close to the mental health hospital in Shimla, Himachal Pradesh, on Thursday, causing panic in the locality and prompting a swift response from emergency services.
Officials said the blaze spread rapidly and affected nearly 1,000 square feet of area before fire tenders managed to bring it under partial control. The fire reportedly started in nearby vegetation and quickly moved towards adjoining structures due to dry weather conditions and strong winds.
Firefighters, along with local police and disaster response teams, rushed to the spot soon after receiving information. Several fire engines were deployed to prevent the flames from reaching residential buildings and sensitive institutional areas near the hospital.
Authorities confirmed that no casualties have been reported so far. However, precautionary measures were taken to ensure the safety of patients and staff at the nearby mental hospital, with parts of the surrounding area briefly evacuated as a safety measure.
Residents in the Boileauganj locality were also alerted as smoke spread across the area, reducing visibility and causing concern among locals. Officials said efforts were focused on preventing further spread of the fire to densely populated zones.
