RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat has described Generation Z as "emotional" and "adaptable", saying that young people often do not think with a "calm mind" and are easily influenced by ideas they perceive as authentic. He made the remarks while addressing an event on contemporary motherhood organised by Vishwamangalya Sabha in Hyderabad.
Bhagwat said Gen Z is naturally emotional and tends to respond quickly to what appears genuine. According to him, today's youth are more likely to be influenced by visible authenticity than by traditional authority. He also linked this observation to the acceptance of various social movements, claiming that some movements later produced unintended social consequences.
At the same event, the RSS chief stressed that parents and elders should guide young people through communication rather than commands. He said the younger generation asks questions and deserves reasoned explanations instead of "dictation". Bhagwat urged families to lead by example, arguing that children learn values primarily by observing the behaviour of adults around them.
Speaking on family and social values, Bhagwat also said marriage brings discipline and responsibility, while commenting on the growing trend of live-in relationships. He further stated that LGBTQ+ individuals are part of Indian society and should not be ostracised, adding that they have always existed in society and deserve the right to live with dignity.
His remarks come at a time when discussions about India's younger generation have gained prominence following recent nationwide student protests and debates over youth participation in public life. Bhagwat's comments are expected to spark political and social debate, with supporters viewing them as advice on intergenerational engagement and critics questioning his characterisation of Gen Z.
