The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast widespread heavy to very heavy rainfall across several parts of the country over the next few days, issuing weather alerts for Delhi, West Bengal, the Northeast and several other states as the southwest monsoon remains active.
According to the IMD, heavy rainfall is expected over Delhi-NCR, eastern Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, West Bengal, Sikkim and the northeastern states, including Assam, Meghalaya, Arunachal Pradesh, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura. Authorities have warned of waterlogging, localized flooding, landslides in hilly regions and traffic disruptions in urban areas. Residents have been advised to remain cautious and avoid unnecessary travel during periods of intense rainfall.
In Delhi, intermittent rain accompanied by thunderstorms and gusty winds is likely to provide relief from humid conditions, although low-lying areas may experience temporary flooding. Meanwhile, West Bengal and Sikkim are expected to witness isolated spells of very heavy rain, particularly in the northern districts, where river levels are being closely monitored. The northeastern region is also likely to continue receiving widespread rainfall, increasing the risk of landslides and flash floods in vulnerable areas.
The weather agency has also predicted heavy showers over parts of Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Odisha, Jharkhand, Maharashtra, Gujarat and the western Himalayan region. State disaster management authorities have been instructed to stay prepared for any weather-related emergencies, while local administrations have stepped up monitoring of rivers, reservoirs and landslide-prone zones.
The IMD has urged people to follow official weather advisories, avoid venturing into flooded areas and exercise caution while travelling, particularly in regions prone to landslides and flash floods. Authorities continue to monitor the evolving monsoon situation as rainfall activity is expected to remain vigorous over large parts of India in the coming days.
