Farmers in Madhya Pradesh continued their protest on the Bhopal-Narmadapuram highway, staging a sit-in demonstration over demands related to the procurement of moong (green gram) crop. The protesting farmers have vowed to continue their agitation until the government accepts their demands and resolves issues related to procurement.

The farmers gathered on the highway, raising concerns over delays and difficulties in the procurement process. They alleged that many farmers were facing problems in getting their moong produce purchased at the Minimum Support Price (MSP) and demanded immediate steps to ensure smooth procurement.

The protest has affected traffic movement on the busy route, with security personnel deployed to manage the situation. Farmers said they would not withdraw the demonstration until they receive a clear assurance from the state government regarding their demands.

Farmer groups have been demanding changes in the procurement system, including an increase in the procurement limit, extension of procurement dates and removal of restrictions that prevent several farmers from selling their produce at government centres. They claim that despite spending heavily on cultivation, many farmers are struggling to get fair returns due to procurement-related issues.

The Madhya Pradesh government has been closely monitoring the situation and officials have held discussions with representatives of farmer organisations. However, the protesters maintained that they would continue their sit-in until concrete action is taken.

Moong is one of the important pulse crops cultivated in Madhya Pradesh, and farmers rely on government procurement schemes to receive remunerative prices. Any delay in procurement can lead to financial losses as farmers are often forced to sell their produce in private markets at lower rates.

Opposition parties have also targeted the state government over the issue, accusing it of failing to address farmers’ concerns. They have demanded that the government immediately intervene and ensure that all eligible farmers get the benefit of MSP procurement.

Meanwhile, authorities are working to maintain law and order while attempting to resolve the deadlock through discussions. The farmers, however, have reiterated that the protest will continue until their demands are fulfilled.

The ongoing agitation highlights the larger concerns among farmers regarding crop prices, procurement policies and timely government support, making it a key issue in Madhya Pradesh’s agricultural sector.
