The Madhya Pradesh government has proposed transferring the investigation into the death of Twisha Sharma to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), amid growing public concern and demands from the victim’s family for a deeper probe.
Twisha Sharma, a young student from Indore, was found dead under suspicious circumstances earlier this month, triggering widespread outrage and protests in parts of the state. Her family has alleged foul play and has been demanding an impartial investigation, claiming that the initial police inquiry has not addressed several key questions surrounding her death.
According to official sources, the state government is considering a formal recommendation to hand over the case to the CBI to ensure an independent and transparent investigation. The move comes after increasing pressure from civil society groups and political leaders who have raised concerns about the pace and direction of the local police probe.
Police had earlier registered a case and initiated investigation based on preliminary evidence collected from the scene and statements from individuals connected to the victim. However, inconsistencies in the findings and allegations of negligence have led to calls for a central agency intervention.
A senior state official said that the proposal is aimed at “ensuring public confidence in the investigation process” and addressing doubts raised by the victim’s family. The final decision on CBI involvement is expected after formal approvals are completed.
Meanwhile, protests have continued in Indore, with student groups and local organisations demanding justice for Twisha Sharma. Demonstrators have called for swift action against those responsible and have criticised delays in uncovering the truth behind her death.
Opposition parties in the state have also weighed in on the issue, accusing the administration of mishandling the case and demanding immediate transfer to the CBI without further delay.
The case has now become a focal point of public debate in Madhya Pradesh, highlighting concerns over women’s safety and the effectiveness of local investigative mechanisms.
If approved, the CBI will take over the case files and re-examine all evidence, witness statements, and forensic reports as part of a fresh investigation into the circumstances surrounding the young student’s death.
