Members of the Naga community staged protests in Manipur on Wednesday demanding the immediate release of six men who were allegedly abducted by unidentified armed individuals in the state’s hill region.
The protests were held in several Naga-dominated areas, where demonstrators blocked roads, raised slogans and appealed to the authorities to take urgent action to trace the missing men. Community organisations and tribal bodies also submitted memorandums to district officials seeking stronger security measures.
According to local sources, the six men were reportedly abducted earlier this week while travelling through a sensitive area affected by ongoing ethnic tensions and armed group activities. Their whereabouts remain unknown.
Protesters accused the administration of failing to ensure the safety of civilians in the conflict-hit areas of Manipur. Demonstrators warned that agitation could intensify if immediate efforts are not made to rescue the abducted men.
Security forces have launched search operations in nearby forest and hill regions, while police officials said investigations are underway to identify those responsible for the abduction. Authorities have not yet confirmed which group may be involved in the incident.
Manipur has witnessed recurring violence, ethnic clashes and armed confrontations over the past several months, particularly in hill districts where tensions between different communities remain high. Incidents of kidnapping, extortion and attacks by armed groups have further deepened insecurity in several parts of the state.
The latest abduction has once again raised concerns over law and order in Manipur, with civil society organisations calling for stronger intervention by both the state and central governments to restore peace and normalcy.
