In a major anti-drug operation, the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) seized more than 39 kilograms of Alprazolam in Telangana and arrested three people allegedly linked to an interstate drug trafficking network.
Officials said the seizure was made during a coordinated operation based on intelligence inputs about the illegal transportation and distribution of psychotropic substances in the region. The accused were reportedly intercepted while transporting the contraband, following which the drugs were recovered during a search operation.
According to investigators, the seized Alprazolam was intended for illegal supply across multiple states. Authorities suspect the network may have connections with organised drug syndicates involved in the distribution of banned pharmaceutical substances.
The arrested individuals are currently being questioned to identify other members of the network, supply routes, and the origin of the consignment. Officials said further raids and arrests are likely as the investigation progresses.
Alprazolam, commonly prescribed for anxiety and panic disorders under strict medical supervision, is classified as a psychotropic substance under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act when misused or illegally traded. Law enforcement agencies have been increasingly targeting the illegal diversion and trafficking of pharmaceutical drugs due to rising abuse among youth.
The NCB stated that the operation forms part of its intensified crackdown on synthetic and prescription drug trafficking across the country. Authorities have also been monitoring courier channels, transport routes, and illegal pharmaceutical supply chains to curb the spread of narcotics.
A case has been registered under relevant sections of the NDPS Act, and the accused are expected to be produced before a court. Officials said efforts are continuing to trace the larger network behind the seizure and prevent further circulation of the banned substance.
