New Delhi: Rescue teams working at the site of the Mehrauli building collapse in south Delhi have reported no signs of any survivors or live victims beneath the debris, as recovery and debris-clearing operations continue. The tragic incident, which occurred near Saket Metro Station, has claimed six lives and left several others injured.

The five-storey building collapsed on Saturday evening in the Said-ul-Azaib area of Mehrauli, triggering a massive rescue operation involving the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), Delhi Fire Services, police personnel, and district disaster management authorities. Emergency responders rushed to the scene shortly after receiving reports of the collapse and immediately began efforts to locate and rescue those trapped under the rubble.

According to NDRF Commandant Suneel Kumar Singh, teams have conducted extensive searches using advanced mechanical equipment, victim-detection devices, and sniffer dogs. However, despite the intensive efforts, no evidence of any live victims has been found. Officials said the operation has now largely shifted towards removing debris and ensuring that no one remains trapped underneath.

The collapse resulted in multiple casualties and injuries. Authorities confirmed that six people lost their lives, while seven others sustained injuries. Several of the injured were admitted to nearby hospitals for treatment, with some later discharged after receiving first aid. Post-mortem examinations of the deceased have been completed, and the bodies have been handed over to their families.

In the immediate aftermath of the disaster, local residents joined rescue teams in pulling victims from the rubble before specialized emergency units arrived. Ambulances were provided priority movement through a specially created green corridor, helping ensure rapid transportation of injured persons to hospitals across the city.

The building reportedly housed residential units along with other facilities, making the collapse particularly devastating for families and residents in the area. Relatives of missing occupants gathered near the site throughout the rescue operation, anxiously awaiting updates as excavators and rescue personnel worked through the debris.

Meanwhile, Delhi Police have registered a case under relevant sections related to culpable homicide and have launched an investigation into the incident. Authorities are examining possible lapses, including allegations related to construction and building safety norms. Several teams have been formed to identify those responsible as the investigation continues.

As recovery efforts proceed, the tragedy has once again raised concerns about structural safety and unauthorized construction in parts of the national capital.
