Noida International Airport in Jewar is finally ready for commercial operations, with IndiGo scheduled to launch the first passenger flights on June 15, marking a major milestone for one of India’s most ambitious aviation projects.
Officials said the airport has received key operational clearances, allowing airlines to begin scheduled services after years of construction and phased development. The initial phase will connect Jewar with major metro cities, with IndiGo expected to operate the first set of domestic routes.
The airport, located in Gautam Buddh Nagar district of Uttar Pradesh, is being developed as a large-scale aviation hub aimed at reducing pressure on Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport and improving air connectivity for western Uttar Pradesh, Haryana and nearby regions.
Authorities said the launch of commercial flights will begin in a phased manner, with passenger services starting at limited capacity before expanding gradually as more terminals, runways and facilities become fully operational. Trial runs and safety inspections have already been completed in recent weeks.
The project has been closely monitored by both the state and central governments, and is being seen as a key infrastructure push to boost regional connectivity, cargo movement and economic development in the National Capital Region.
IndiGo’s decision to operate the inaugural flights is expected to give the airport an early boost in passenger traffic, with the airline planning to expand routes based on demand and infrastructure readiness.
Officials involved in the project said the airport will eventually handle international flights as well, positioning it as a major aviation gateway for North India in the coming years. Cargo operations are also expected to be a significant part of its long-term plan, especially for industrial clusters in Uttar Pradesh.
Local authorities have also prepared transport links connecting the airport to Delhi, Noida and nearby cities through expressways and planned metro extensions. Improved road connectivity is expected to play a crucial role in ensuring smooth passenger movement once operations begin.
With the first commercial flights set to take off in June, the airport’s opening is being viewed as a major step in easing congestion at Delhi airport while boosting aviation capacity in the region.
