Norway Chess Tournament: Viswanathan Anand beats world champion Carlsen, climbs to top spot

Now with 10 points, the 52-year-old Indian GM leads the field. There are four more rounds to go in the tournament and will feature some of the best players in the sport of chess

Indian Grand Chess Master Viswanathan Anand secured a victory over the world’s number 1 Magnus Carlsen on Monday in the Norway Chess tournament and ascended to the top spot. 


The ace Indian Chess master defeated Carlsen in Armageddon after the regular match ended in a draw. Anand once again displayed his prowess by posting a win in 50 moves. The players participate in Armageddon (sudden death) match in case of a draw in the classical game.


 Now with 10 points, the 52-year-old Indian GM leads the field. There are four more rounds to go in the tournament and will feature some of the best players in the sport of chess.


Vishwanathan Anand commenced the tournament with three straight wins over Maxime Vachier-Lagrave (France), Veselin Topalov (Bulgaria), and Hao Wang (China). but his streak was interrupted when American Wesley defeated him in the fourth round.
