Kolkata/Mumbai: Opposition parties have extended support to West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee over her ongoing political stand against the Centre and the Election Commission, with Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Sanjay Raut stating that her decision not to withdraw from the protest reflects growing unity among non-BJP parties.
Raut made the remarks while speaking to reporters, claiming that several opposition leaders are in agreement with Banerjee’s position on what they describe as issues related to federal functioning and electoral processes. According to him, the protests highlight concerns being raised by multiple regional parties regarding the role of central institutions.
Mamata Banerjee has been vocal in her criticism of both the Union government and the Election Commission of India in recent political developments. She has alleged bias and questioned certain administrative decisions, which has led to a series of political reactions across the country.
Raut said that Banerjee’s refusal to step back from her protest has strengthened the morale of opposition parties, who are attempting to present a more coordinated front against the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). He added that unity among opposition parties is gradually taking shape, especially on issues concerning democratic rights and institutional independence.
The remarks come at a time when opposition leaders in several states are holding discussions on forming a broader alliance strategy. While differences remain among regional parties on ideological and electoral matters, leaders like Raut argue that there is increasing convergence on key national issues.
Political observers note that Mamata Banerjee remains one of the most influential regional leaders in India, and her stance often plays a significant role in shaping opposition narratives. Her continued protest has also drawn reactions from both supporters and critics, further intensifying the political debate.
The BJP, however, has dismissed the opposition’s claims, accusing them of attempting to create confusion and questioning the credibility of their allegations. Party leaders maintain that all constitutional bodies are functioning independently and fairly.
As political tensions continue, the evolving opposition strategy and Mamata Banerjee’s role in it are expected to remain in focus in the coming days, especially as discussions around unity and coordination gain momentum across states.
