Punjab witnessed an enthusiastic participation of voters in the civic body elections, with an overall voter turnout of 63.94 percent recorded across 102 local bodies in the state. The polling process remained largely peaceful, with voters turning out in significant numbers to elect their representatives in municipal councils and nagar panchayats.

According to the State Election Commission, voting was conducted across dozens of urban local bodies spread across various districts of Punjab. Polling began in the morning amid tight security arrangements and continued throughout the day, drawing participation from residents across towns and smaller urban centres.

Election officials stated that polling proceeded smoothly at the majority of booths, with only a few minor incidents reported. Security personnel were deployed in sensitive areas to maintain law and order and ensure free and fair voting. Authorities had also installed surveillance systems and made extensive logistical arrangements to facilitate the electoral process.

The elections covered 102 municipal bodies, including municipal councils and nagar panchayats, making it one of the most significant local governance exercises in the state in recent times. Thousands of candidates contested for various wards, seeking public support on issues such as urban development, sanitation, infrastructure, water supply, and civic amenities.

Several polling stations witnessed long queues from the early hours, with voters expressing their eagerness to participate in the democratic process. Women, senior citizens, and first-time voters were seen arriving in large numbers to cast their ballots. Election officials had arranged special facilities at polling centres to assist elderly and differently-abled voters.

Political parties closely monitored the polling process, with leaders expressing confidence about their prospects in the elections. The civic polls are being viewed as an important indicator of public sentiment at the grassroots level and are expected to influence local political dynamics in the coming months.

The State Election Commission thanked voters, polling personnel, security forces, and administrative officials for ensuring the smooth conduct of the elections. Officials noted that the turnout reflected strong public interest in local governance and civic administration.

With polling now completed, attention has shifted to the counting of votes, which will determine the composition of municipal administrations across the state. Political parties and independent candidates are awaiting the results, which are expected to shape development priorities in urban areas of Punjab.

The healthy voter turnout of 63.94 percent underscores the importance that citizens place on local self-governance and their willingness to participate actively in decisions affecting their communities and everyday lives.
