AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi has indicated that his party is prepared to join a broader opposition alliance to prevent the BJP from returning to power in the 2027 Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections.
Speaking ahead of the crucial state polls, Owaisi said that his party remains open to discussions with like-minded political forces if a credible alliance can be formed to challenge the BJP effectively. He stressed that the primary objective would be to provide voters with a strong alternative and avoid the division of anti-BJP votes.
The Hyderabad MP also emphasized that any alliance would have to be based on mutual respect, a common programme and a clear understanding on issues affecting Uttar Pradesh. He argued that opposition parties need to work together strategically if they hope to mount a serious challenge in India's most populous state.
Owaisi's remarks come as political parties have begun informal preparations for the 2027 Assembly elections, even though the polls are still some time away. His statement is likely to fuel speculation about possible realignments within the opposition camp, particularly among regional parties seeking to expand their influence in Uttar Pradesh.
The AIMIM has contested previous elections in Uttar Pradesh but has had limited electoral success in the state. However, Owaisi has consistently maintained that his party represents marginalized communities and intends to strengthen its organizational presence across the state.
The BJP, which currently remains a dominant force in Uttar Pradesh politics, has not officially responded to Owaisi's latest comments. Political observers believe discussions on alliances and seat-sharing arrangements among opposition parties are likely to intensify as the 2027 elections draw closer.
While no formal alliance has been announced, Owaisi's statement signals a willingness to explore coalition politics in an effort to build a united opposition front against the BJP in Uttar Pradesh.
