Amid heightened tensions following recent violence in Murshidabad, AJUP chief Humayun Kabir has appealed for “peace and harmony” during the ongoing polling process, urging people not to get provoked and to maintain calm.
Addressing the situation, Humayun Kabir emphasized that elections should be conducted in a peaceful environment, free from fear and intimidation. His remarks come in the backdrop of a crude bomb attack and sporadic unrest in parts of the district, which have raised concerns over voter safety and law and order.
Kabir called upon all political workers and supporters to respect democratic values and allow voters to exercise their rights without disruption. He also appealed to the administration to take strict action against those responsible for the violence and ensure that such incidents are not repeated.
The district has witnessed increased security deployment, with central forces and state police intensifying patrols in sensitive areas. Polling officials have also stepped up monitoring to ensure that the voting process remains smooth and uninterrupted.
Despite the tensions, voters have continued to turn up at polling booths, reflecting resilience and commitment to the democratic process. Authorities have assured that all necessary measures are in place to prevent further incidents and maintain peace.
The appeal for harmony comes at a crucial time, as Murshidabad remains one of the closely watched districts in the ongoing elections. With political stakes high, leaders across parties are being urged to prioritize peace over confrontation.
As voting continues, the focus now remains on ensuring a safe and fair electoral process, with the administration closely monitoring the situation on the ground.
