BJP leader K Annamalai has said that Tamil Nadu is heading towards a “clear two-corner contest” between the ruling DMK-led alliance and the opposition AIADMK-led NDA, and asserted that voters are looking for a “decisive change” in the state’s political leadership.
Speaking on the upcoming Tamil Nadu Assembly elections, Annamalai expressed confidence that the electoral battle has now narrowed down to two major fronts, with smaller parties having limited impact on the final outcome. He said the public mood he has observed during his statewide campaign strongly indicates a desire for change in governance.
“The campaigning will conclude on the 21st and voting will take place on the 23rd. It is very clear that Tamil Nadu is witnessing a two-corner contest between the DMK-led alliance and the AIADMK-led NDA alliance. From what I have seen across the state, people want a decisive change,” Annamalai said.
He further claimed that many voters are dissatisfied with the current DMK government, particularly on issues such as governance and law and order. According to him, this dissatisfaction is driving support towards the opposition alliance.
“People are fed up with the governance model of the DMK. They are waiting to vote for an alternative on April 23,” he added.
Annamalai also expressed confidence that the NDA, led in the state by AIADMK, will emerge as the preferred alternative among voters seeking change. He said the alliance has received a positive response during campaign visits across multiple constituencies.
Responding to political criticism from opposition leaders, including Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, Annamalai dismissed allegations against the BJP leadership, calling them baseless and politically motivated.
He also commented on the role of newer political entrants in Tamil Nadu, stating that while they may attract crowds and attention, governance experience and organisational strength would ultimately decide electoral outcomes.
Political observers note that Tamil Nadu’s electoral landscape is becoming increasingly competitive, with major alliances intensifying campaigns ahead of polling. The contest is expected to be closely watched as parties make their final push to secure voter support.
The Tamil Nadu Assembly elections will be held in a single phase later this month, with counting scheduled in early May.
