Prime Minister Narendra Modi, addressing a large public rally in Purulia, launched a sharp attack on the ruling Trinamool Congress (TMC), describing the current situation in the state as a “big crisis” under what he termed the “maha jungle raj” of a “TMC syndicate.”
The Prime Minister’s remarks came during a high-voltage political campaign event in the tribal-dominated district, where he focused heavily on issues of governance, law and order, and alleged corruption. Modi claimed that West Bengal was facing administrative decline and accused the state leadership of allowing unchecked influence of syndicates in key sectors.
Speaking to the crowd, he said that common people were suffering due to what he described as a “system controlled by syndicates,” and added that development was being hindered by corruption and mismanagement. The phrase “maha jungle raj” was used by him to underline what he alleged was a breakdown of governance structures in the state.
The rally witnessed a large turnout despite intense heat conditions, with supporters gathering from surrounding rural areas. Party workers organized transport and local outreach efforts to bring people to the venue, making it one of the significant campaign events in the region.
Modi also highlighted central government welfare schemes, stating that direct benefit transfers and infrastructure projects were aimed at bypassing corruption and ensuring benefits reached the grassroots level. He urged voters to support political change, arguing that development in West Bengal required a shift in governance approach.
The speech is part of the broader BJP campaign strategy in West Bengal, where the party is seeking to expand its support base ahead of upcoming elections. Purulia, along with other districts in the western part of the state, has been a key focus area due to its socio-economic challenges and political competitiveness.
The Trinamool Congress has in the past rejected similar allegations from the BJP, maintaining that the state government has focused on welfare schemes, rural development, and public services. Party leaders are expected to respond to the Prime Minister’s remarks in upcoming press interactions.
As the election atmosphere intensifies, political rhetoric between the ruling party and opposition is expected to escalate further, with both sides actively campaigning across districts in the state.
