Former prime minister and Janata Dal (Secular) supremo H D Deve Gowda turned 89 on Wednesday, May 18. And on the occasion, wishes poured in for him from all walks of life. Prime Minister Narendra Modi was also among the long list of people who wished Gowda his birthday.
The PM took to Twitter to extend his greeting to Gowda. “Birthday greetings to our former PM and respected statesman Shri” PM Modi Tweeted.
Deve Gowda served as the 11th prime minister of India from 1 June 1996 to 21 April 1997. Before ascending to the PM chair, he was also elected as chief minister of Karnataka from 1994 to 1996.
His political career began when he joined Congress in 1953. His stint with the grand party ended in 1962. In 1994 he became the President of the state unit of Janata Dal in 1994.
