Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s unexpected roadshow in Purulia on Sunday drew large crowds of supporters, who gathered in large numbers despite scorching heat conditions in the region. The brief but energetic interaction turned into a major public spectacle as people lined the streets to catch a glimpse of the Prime Minister.
According to reports, the roadshow was not initially planned as a full-scale event but developed spontaneously as Modi travelled through the area for a scheduled political rally. As his convoy moved through parts of Purulia, enthusiastic supporters gathered along the route, prompting a short impromptu roadshow before he proceeded to address a public meeting.
The region witnessed extremely high temperatures, yet thousands of people, including men, women, and young supporters, remained gathered for hours. Many were seen waving flags, holding posters, and chanting slogans as the Prime Minister’s convoy passed through key stretches of the town.
Officials and party leaders said the turnout reflected strong local enthusiasm ahead of the ongoing political campaign in West Bengal. The Prime Minister later addressed a rally where he acknowledged the crowd’s participation, noting the “remarkable energy” of supporters despite the harsh weather conditions.
Visuals from the event showed densely packed crowds lining roads, with several attendees climbing rooftops and elevated spots to view the roadshow. Local administration deployed security personnel and arranged basic crowd management measures to ensure safety amid the large gathering and high temperatures.
Medical teams were also kept on standby due to concerns over heat-related health issues, as the region continues to experience an early summer heatwave.
Political observers noted that Purulia, which is part of the tribal-dominated belt of West Bengal, has been a key focus area in the ongoing campaign. The BJP has been actively holding rallies and outreach programmes in the region, while rival parties continue their own mobilisation efforts.
The roadshow and rally together added momentum to the political atmosphere in the state, where campaigning has intensified in the run-up to the upcoming elections.
Authorities confirmed that despite the large gathering and extreme heat, no major untoward incident was reported during the Prime Minister’s visit.
