Polling personnel in Bankura began collecting Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) and other election materials from distribution centres set up at Bankura University on Wednesday, a day ahead of Phase 1 of the Assembly elections. The process marked the final stage of preparations as the district gears up for polling.
Since early morning, long queues of polling officials, including presiding officers and polling staff, were seen at the university campus, which has been designated as a Distribution-cum-Reception Centre (DCRC). Under tight security arrangements, officials collected EVMs, Voter Verifiable Paper Audit Trail (VVPAT) machines, and essential documents required to conduct voting smoothly across various polling booths.
Election authorities ensured that the distribution process was carried out in an organised manner, with separate counters set up for different assembly constituencies. Staff were briefed on polling procedures, use of EVMs, and contingency measures to handle any technical or logistical issues on polling day.
Security personnel were deployed in large numbers to maintain order and ensure the safe handling of sensitive election equipment. The machines were checked and sealed in the presence of polling officials before being handed over, in accordance with guidelines issued by the Election Commission of India.
After collecting the materials, polling teams began their journey to designated polling stations, many of which are located in remote and rural areas of the district. Special arrangements, including vehicles and security escorts, were made to ensure that teams reach their destinations safely and on time.
Officials said that all necessary steps have been taken to ensure free and fair elections. Adequate security deployment, proper training of staff, and systematic distribution of polling materials are part of the overall strategy to conduct the voting process without disruption.
Phase 1 polling in West Bengal is expected to witness a closely watched contest, with major political parties intensifying their campaigns. The smooth distribution of EVMs and election materials at Bankura University is being seen as a crucial step toward ensuring that the electoral process proceeds efficiently.
The administration has urged polling personnel to strictly adhere to election guidelines and has assured that support systems are in place to address any challenges that may arise during voting.
