President Droupadi Murmu conferred Padma Awards on 65 distinguished personalities during the second Civil Investiture Ceremony at Rashtrapati Bhavan on Tuesday, recognising their outstanding contributions across sports, arts, public affairs and social service.
Among the prominent awardees were Mammootty and Alka Yagnik, who received the Padma Bhushan for their exceptional contributions to Indian cinema and music. Veteran actor-comedian Satish Shah was honoured posthumously with the Padma Shri, while Indian cricket captain Rohit Sharma was among the recipients recognised for excellence in sports.
The ceremony, held at Rashtrapati Bhavan in New Delhi, was attended by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Vice-President C. P. Radhakrishnan and other senior dignitaries. The Padma Awards are among India's highest civilian honours and are presented annually to individuals who have made distinguished contributions in their respective fields.
This year's second investiture ceremony saw the conferment of two Padma Vibhushan, seven Padma Bhushan and 56 Padma Shri awards. The event celebrated achievements spanning arts, literature, sports, science, public affairs and social work, highlighting the diverse contributions of the awardees to the nation.
For Mammootty, the honour marked another milestone in a film career spanning more than five decades, while Alka Yagnik was recognised for her enduring impact on Indian music. Rohit Sharma's award acknowledged his achievements and leadership in international cricket, and Satish Shah's posthumous recognition paid tribute to his lasting legacy in Indian entertainment.
