BJP MP Raghav Chadha has been granted an appointment with President Droupadi Murmu on May 5, where he is expected to raise concerns over the alleged targeting of former AAP MPs who recently joined the BJP.
According to sources, Chadha sought time to brief the President about what he described as the misuse of state machinery in Punjab. The complaint centres on claims that leaders who quit the Aam Aadmi Party and merged with the Bharatiya Janata Party are being selectively targeted in what he alleges is political vendetta.
The meeting is scheduled for the morning of May 5, with Chadha expected to be accompanied by a small delegation of MPs. Reports indicate the appointment has been fixed for around 10:40 am, ahead of another key political meeting later the same day.
The development comes in the backdrop of a major political shift in April 2026, when Chadha and six other Rajya Sabha MPs resigned from AAP and joined the BJP. The group argued that their move qualified as a “merger” under anti-defection laws, as it involved more than two-thirds of the party’s strength in the Upper House.
The issue has triggered a sharp political confrontation in Punjab. Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann has also sought time with the President on the same day and is expected to present a counter-view, accusing the defecting MPs of betraying the public mandate.
Chadha, however, maintains that the focus of his meeting will be to highlight alleged harassment and administrative pressure on MPs who switched sides. The episode underscores escalating tensions between the BJP and AAP, especially in Punjab, where both sides are now preparing to take their arguments directly to the President.
