Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi has demanded the removal of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan over the continuing controversy surrounding the NEET examination, accusing the Centre of failing to protect the future of students.

In a sharp attack on the government, Rahul Gandhi alleged that repeated irregularities in major national examinations have shattered the confidence of students and parents across the country. He claimed that paper leaks, allegations of mismanagement and lack of accountability have exposed serious weaknesses in the examination system.

Addressing reporters in New Delhi, the Congress leader said Prime Minister Narendra Modi should immediately remove Dharmendra Pradhan from the Union Cabinet and take responsibility for what he described as a “complete collapse” of the education system’s credibility. Rahul Gandhi also accused the Centre of ignoring students’ concerns and reacting only after public outrage intensified.

The NEET controversy has triggered protests in several states, with students and opposition parties demanding stricter safeguards and a transparent investigation into alleged irregularities. Critics have questioned the functioning of the National Testing Agency and called for reforms in the conduct of competitive examinations.

The BJP strongly rejected Rahul Gandhi’s remarks, accusing the Congress of politicising student issues. Party leaders defended the Education Ministry’s actions, stating that investigations are underway and strict measures have been taken against those responsible for any wrongdoing. The government has also maintained that technological upgrades and tighter security protocols are being introduced to prevent future examination leaks.

Dharmendra Pradhan recently stated that the Centre is committed to maintaining transparency and fairness in national-level examinations. He said action would be taken against anyone found guilty of malpractice and assured students that the integrity of the examination process would be protected.

The NEET issue has become a major political flashpoint, with opposition parties attempting to corner the government over concerns related to youth unemployment, education reforms and institutional accountability. Analysts believe the controversy could continue to dominate political debates as Parliament and state election campaigns gather momentum.
