Deputy Commissioner (DC) Mohammad Alyas Khan and Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Arun Gupta inspected the landslide and subsidence-hit Pernote area in Jammu and Kashmir's Ramban district to assess the damage caused by recent heavy rainfall and review ongoing restoration work on the Ramban-Gool Road.
During the visit, the officials reviewed restoration work being carried out by the Border Roads Organisation (BRO) on the nearly 300-metre stretch of the road that suffered severe subsidence, disrupting a key road link between Ramban and Gool. They were informed that debris clearance and road restoration are being undertaken on a war footing with heavy machinery and adequate manpower.
The Deputy Commissioner directed the executing agency to speed up restoration by deploying additional machinery and personnel so that traffic can be restored at the earliest. He also took up the matter with senior BRO officials, stressing the importance of reopening the road quickly for the benefit of local residents.
Emphasising public safety, the administration urged residents and commuters to stay away from the subsidence-affected area as the ground remains unstable and vulnerable to further sliding. The district administration said it is closely coordinating with the BRO and other departments to monitor the situation and ensure the early restoration of normal traffic while safeguarding public safety.
