The father of the RG Kar Medical College and Hospital rape-murder victim has alleged that he was subjected to voter intimidation during the ongoing West Bengal Assembly elections, triggering fresh political controversy in the state.
Speaking to reporters after casting his vote, he claimed that there was an attempt to create pressure and fear around him during the polling process. He further accused the ruling Trinamool Congress (TMC) of fostering an environment of intimidation in certain areas.
Calling the state government a “government of monsters,” he strongly criticised the law-and-order situation in West Bengal and questioned the safety of ordinary voters during elections. His remarks quickly drew attention from political circles and sparked heated reactions on social media.
According to his allegations, the atmosphere around polling stations in some areas was not fully free and fair, and he expressed concern over whether voters were able to exercise their democratic rights without fear. However, he did not provide specific details of the alleged intimidation.
The comments come at a sensitive time, as voting is underway across multiple phases in West Bengal amid tight security arrangements. Authorities have deployed central forces in several constituencies to ensure peaceful polling and to address complaints of voter intimidation or irregularities.
The incident has added a fresh political flashpoint in an already charged election atmosphere in the state, where issues of law and order, political violence, and voter safety remain key points of debate between rival parties.
Officials have not yet issued a formal response to the allegations. The matter is expected to further intensify political exchanges as the election process continues.
