SECOND SUICIDE CASE OF IIT STUDENT IN TELANGANA IN RECENT MONTHS

IIT Student Found Dead in Hostel Room, Depression Suspected

A 23-year-old IIT student from Odisha was found hanging in her hostel room on the IIT campus in Telangana’s Sangareddy district on Monday late evening. Police stated that they have found a suicide letter left by the student, in which depression has been mentioned as the possible cause behind her suicide.


The student, identified as Mamita Nayak, was a second-year student at the IIT. She was found hanging from the ceiling fan in her hostel room by her roommates. The police have initiated proceedings under Section 174 of the CrPC, after receiving a complaint from the institute's officials.


The body of the deceased has been taken to the mortuary for a postmortem examination, and the family has been notified of the death.. Police said that they are investigating the matter from all angles.


This is the second suicide case of an IIT student in Telangana in recent months. In January, a 21-year-old IIT student from Andhra Pradesh committed suicide by hanging himself in his hostel room. The police said that the deceased was battling depression.


The death of these two students has raised concerns about the mental health of IIT students. Experts say that IIT students are under a lot of pressure to perform well academically and to secure a good job after graduation. This can cause to stress and depression.
