Veteran Indian politician Sharad Pawar has been admitted to a private hospital in Mumbai, prompting concern among his supporters and political circles. However, sources have clarified that the hospitalisation is for a routine medical check-up and there is no immediate cause for alarm.
According to reports on Tuesday, the 85-year-old leader, who is the president of the Nationalist Congress Party (Sharad Pawar faction) and a sitting Rajya Sabha Member of Parliament, was admitted to the well-known Breach Candy Hospital. He is currently under observation as part of a follow-up evaluation.
Hospital sources and party insiders have confirmed that Pawar’s condition is stable. They emphasized that the visit is precautionary in nature and part of his regular health monitoring, with no serious health complications reported so far.
The senior leader was reportedly admitted a couple of days ago, and doctors are conducting routine tests to ensure his overall well-being. This comes after recent minor health issues earlier in the year, including a chest infection and dehydration, for which he had received treatment.
Despite his age and health concerns, Pawar remains an influential figure in Indian politics, with a career spanning over five decades. He has served as Maharashtra’s Chief Minister multiple times and has played a key role in national politics as a Union minister and coalition strategist.
His hospitalisation has also coincided with ongoing political developments in Maharashtra, including the upcoming Baramati bypoll. Pawar recently indicated that he may not be able to participate actively in campaigning due to health reasons, further underlining the need for rest and medical supervision.
Leaders from across party lines and supporters have expressed concern while wishing him a speedy recovery. Meanwhile, party members have reassured the public that there is no reason for worry and that Pawar is expected to be discharged after completion of routine tests.
As of now, doctors continue to monitor his health, and further updates are awaited.
