Guwahati: Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan has described the swearing-in ceremony of the new Assam government as a “historic day,” highlighting the political significance of the ruling alliance securing a third consecutive term in the state.
Speaking ahead of the oath-taking ceremony in Guwahati, Chouhan said the mandate reflects strong public trust in the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the development agenda of the National Democratic Alliance (NDA). He said the people of Assam have once again reaffirmed their faith in continuity, stability, and growth-oriented governance.
The ceremony, held amid high-level participation from national leaders, marks the formal installation of the new state government following the NDA’s decisive electoral victory. The alliance secured a strong majority in the 126-member Assam Legislative Assembly, paving the way for another term in office.
Calling the moment “a victory of development and public welfare,” Chouhan said Assam has witnessed significant progress under the current leadership and that the new government would further strengthen this momentum. He praised the state’s administrative and infrastructural development in recent years, adding that Assam is now moving firmly on the path of becoming a key growth engine in the Northeast.
The Union Minister also said the result reflects the electorate’s confidence in the leadership at both the Centre and the state level. He added that coordinated governance between the Centre and Assam has helped accelerate development projects across sectors including infrastructure, connectivity, and welfare schemes.
The swearing-in ceremony in Guwahati was attended by several senior leaders from the NDA, including Union ministers and chief ministers from different states. Prime Minister Narendra Modi also arrived in the state to attend the event, underscoring its national importance.
Chouhan further stated that the continued electoral success of the NDA in Assam represents a “strong endorsement of people-centric governance.” He said the new government would focus on further improving development indicators and ensuring that the benefits of welfare schemes reach every section of society.
The event marks the beginning of a new term for the Assam government, with expectations of continued policy stability and accelerated development initiatives in the state.
