Six people were killed in a violent attack in Karnataka’s Vijayapura district after a long-running land dispute between two families turned deadly. The incident took place at Govindapura village in Chadachan taluk, where tensions over agricultural land had reportedly existed for several years.
According to police, the clash involved members of the Nirale and Golagi families. Reports said the dispute erupted when one family allegedly began preparing the farmland for sowing, leading to objections from the other side. What started as a verbal argument soon escalated into a brutal confrontation.
Investigators said the attackers used sharp weapons, and some reports also mentioned gunfire during the assault. Six people were killed on the spot, while at least two others sustained injuries. The victims were identified as Chandu Nirale, Dundappa Nirale, Shivaputra Nirale, Rahul Nirale, Samarth Nirale, and Shabbir Nadaf, all residents of the village.
Police officials said the killings appear to be connected to a long-standing dispute over ownership of agricultural land. The Bhima river belt region, where the village is located, has witnessed several land-related conflicts in the past. Investigators are also examining whether the attack is linked to an earlier murder case registered in the area in 2015.
Inspector General of Police (North Zone) Sandeep Patil visited the village and confirmed that six members of the same family were killed in the attack. He said police have already gathered information about the suspected attackers and efforts are underway to arrest those involved.
The incident created panic in Govindapura village, with residents reportedly too frightened to immediately inform authorities. Police teams later rushed to the spot, secured the area, and shifted the bodies for post-mortem examinations. A case has been registered at Chadachan Police Station, and further investigation is underway.
The shocking incident has once again drawn attention to violent land disputes in rural areas, with local authorities promising strict action against those responsible for the killings.
