Imphal: Security forces in Manipur have arrested six militants in separate operations carried out across sensitive areas of the state, officials said on Monday.

According to police sources, the arrests were made during coordinated counter-insurgency operations based on specific intelligence inputs. The individuals are suspected to be linked to active insurgent groups operating in the region and were allegedly involved in activities such as extortion, intimidation, and movement of arms.

The operations were conducted in multiple districts under heightened security surveillance, with personnel from state police and central armed forces working jointly to track down suspected cadres. Officials said the arrested individuals were taken into custody without any major confrontation.

Preliminary interrogation suggests that the militants were operating in small groups and maintaining contact with larger underground networks. Security agencies are now trying to establish their exact role, organisational links, and the extent of their involvement in recent incidents in the state.

Manipur has been witnessing intermittent security challenges due to the presence of multiple armed groups, and authorities have intensified counter-insurgency measures in recent months. Officials said the latest arrests are part of ongoing efforts to curb militant activities and restore normalcy in affected areas.

Recovered items from the arrested individuals include mobile phones, documents, and other materials suspected to be used for communication and coordination of illegal activities. These are currently being analysed by security agencies.

Senior police officials stated that operations will continue in the coming days based on intelligence inputs, and additional arrests cannot be ruled out. They also urged local residents to cooperate with security forces and report any suspicious activity.

The state administration has reiterated its commitment to maintaining law and order and ensuring peace in all affected regions. Authorities added that sustained operations are being carried out to dismantle militant networks and prevent further incidents.

The arrested individuals will be produced before the appropriate court, and further investigation is underway to determine the full scope of their activities and connections.

Security agencies have maintained that the situation remains under control, though vigilance has been increased in vulnerable areas across Manipur.
