New Delhi: The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) has announced that South Korean President Lee Jae-myung is expected to “shortly arrive” in New Delhi for a high-level State visit, marking an important moment in India–South Korea diplomatic relations.
According to the MEA briefing, the visit will focus on strengthening bilateral cooperation across key sectors including trade, technology, defence, and cultural exchange. The upcoming engagement is being described as part of ongoing efforts by both countries to deepen their “Special Strategic Partnership.”
Officials stated that President Lee’s visit will include a ceremonial welcome in New Delhi and formal talks with Prime Minister Narendra Modi. High-level delegation-level discussions are also scheduled, where both sides are expected to review progress in existing agreements and explore new areas of collaboration.
Key topics likely to be discussed include semiconductor supply chains, electric mobility, clean energy transition, defence industrial cooperation, and infrastructure investment. India has been actively seeking greater investment from East Asian economies, while South Korea has shown increasing interest in expanding its footprint in India’s manufacturing and technology sectors.
Diplomatic sources indicate that regional security developments in the Indo-Pacific and global economic uncertainties may also feature in the discussions. Both countries share a convergence of interests in maintaining a stable and rules-based regional order, particularly amid shifting geopolitical dynamics.
The MEA highlighted that cultural and people-to-people ties will also be a significant part of the visit. India and South Korea have seen growing exchanges in education, tourism, and entertainment sectors in recent years, with increasing youth engagement on both sides.
President Lee is also expected to meet Indian business leaders during his visit, where opportunities for expanded investment and joint ventures may be discussed. A business roundtable involving major industry stakeholders from both countries is likely to be organized in New Delhi.
This visit comes at a time when India is expanding its diplomatic outreach in East Asia, while South Korea continues to strengthen its global economic partnerships. Analysts view the upcoming meeting as an important step in reinforcing long-term strategic alignment between the two democracies.
Further details of the visit itinerary are expected to be released by the MEA in the coming days.
