The Samajwadi Party (SP) on Tuesday alleged that nearly 27,000 voter names in Uttar Pradesh's Anupshahr Assembly constituency were manipulated and demanded a thorough investigation by the state's Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) ahead of the 2027 Assembly elections.
Addressing a press conference, SP leaders claimed that thousands of voter records were either wrongly added, deleted or altered during the electoral roll revision process. The party alleged that the irregularities could affect the fairness of the upcoming elections and sought immediate corrective measures.
The SP urged the Uttar Pradesh Chief Electoral Officer to conduct an independent inquiry into the alleged anomalies and verify the electoral rolls. Party leaders also called for strict action against officials found responsible if any manipulation is established during the investigation.
The allegations come as political parties have intensified scrutiny of voter lists ahead of the 2027 Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections. The SP maintained that a transparent and error-free electoral roll is essential to ensure free and fair polls and protect the democratic rights of voters.
The Election Commission has not yet issued a detailed response to the allegations. Officials are expected to examine the claims in accordance with the prescribed procedures for electoral roll verification.
The issue is likely to become a major political flashpoint in Uttar Pradesh as parties gear up for the 2027 Assembly elections, with the SP insisting that the alleged discrepancies be addressed well before the polling process begins.
