Kolkata: Leader of Opposition in West Bengal Assembly and senior BJP leader Suvendu Adhikari on Monday held a “Janta Darbar” at the BJP state headquarters in Salt Lake, where he met party workers and members of the public who came to raise various grievances and issues.
The public interaction programme was organised at the BJP office in the Salt Lake area of Kolkata, where a large number of visitors reportedly gathered since morning. People from different parts of the state came forward with complaints related to local administration, welfare schemes, law and order, and civic infrastructure.
During the session, Adhikari listened to grievances one by one and assured those present that their issues would be taken up with the appropriate authorities. Party sources said that the initiative was aimed at strengthening direct communication between the opposition leadership and the public, especially those who feel their concerns are not being addressed at the administrative level.
Security arrangements were tightened around the venue due to the expected crowd. Volunteers and party workers helped in managing the queue system to ensure that people could meet the leader in an orderly manner.
According to BJP sources, the Janta Darbar is part of a broader outreach programme intended to highlight public issues across West Bengal. The party has been organising similar interactions in different districts, focusing on complaints related to ration distribution, housing schemes, employment concerns, and local governance matters.
Several attendees reportedly raised concerns over delays in government welfare benefits and alleged irregularities in local administrative processes. Some also spoke about issues related to road conditions, drinking water supply, and job opportunities.
Adhikari assured the participants that he would escalate the matters through appropriate political and administrative channels. He also encouraged citizens to remain engaged in the democratic process and continue voicing their concerns.
The event comes at a time when political activity in West Bengal has intensified ahead of the upcoming electoral cycle, with both ruling and opposition parties increasing their outreach efforts.
Party insiders indicated that more such Janta Darbar-style programmes may be organised in the coming weeks across different locations in the state, as part of a sustained attempt to expand public contact and address grassroots issues.
The programme concluded in the afternoon after several hours of interaction, with party workers assisting attendees in submitting written complaints and documentation for further follow-up.
