A tragic accident at an amusement facility in Uttar Pradesh’s Agra claimed the life of a teenager on Monday after a zipline cable snapped mid-ride, officials said. The incident has triggered shock in the local area and raised serious concerns over safety standards at adventure parks.
According to preliminary information, the victim, a teenage boy visiting the facility with friends and family, was attempting a zipline ride when the supporting cable suddenly gave way. The boy fell from height and sustained critical injuries. He was immediately rushed to a nearby hospital, where doctors declared him dead on arrival.
Eyewitnesses at the amusement park said the ride appeared to be operating normally before the accident. Several visitors reported panic at the scene as staff quickly halted other activities and evacuated the area. The park was later closed temporarily following the incident.
Police and district administration teams reached the spot soon after receiving information. The area was cordoned off, and an initial inspection of the ride setup was conducted. Officials confirmed that an investigation has been launched to determine whether the accident occurred due to mechanical failure, poor maintenance, or negligence in safety checks.
The victim’s family has been informed, and their statements are being recorded as part of the inquiry. Authorities are also examining the certification and maintenance records of the amusement facility, including whether safety protocols and routine inspections were properly followed.
Local residents have expressed concern over the safety of adventure rides in privately operated amusement parks, many of which have come up in recent years to attract tourists and young visitors. Experts say that zipline and other high-adrenaline activities require strict adherence to safety standards, including regular equipment testing and trained supervision.
Officials from the district administration said strict action will be taken if any lapse is found. They added that a detailed technical audit of the ride system will be conducted by engineering experts to identify the exact cause of the cable failure.
The incident has also prompted calls for tighter regulation of amusement parks across Uttar Pradesh, with demands that all such facilities undergo mandatory safety certification and surprise inspections.
Meanwhile, the park management has not issued a detailed public statement yet but is cooperating with the investigation. The facility will remain closed until further notice.
The tragic death has cast a shadow over what was meant to be a recreational outing, and authorities have assured that responsibility will be fixed after the probe is completed.
