The Telangana unit of the Congress party has suspended senior leader Mahaboob Alam and his son Mujahid Alam Khan after their arrest in connection with the alleged murder of Hyderabad-based advocate Khaja Moizuddin.
According to Hyderabad Police, the case was initially believed to be a hit-and-run accident that took place on May 23 in the Masab Tank area of Hyderabad. However, investigators later concluded that the incident was a planned contract killing. CCTV footage and other evidence reportedly showed that a vehicle had deliberately targeted the lawyer before fleeing the scene.
Police said the murder was allegedly linked to a long-running dispute over Waqf properties and management issues. Investigators claim that Mujahid Alam Khan, along with his father Mahaboob Alam Khan and several associates, conspired to eliminate the advocate, who had been actively involved in legal cases related to the dispute. The alleged contract for the killing was valued at around ₹15 lakh, according to police officials.
The investigation revealed that the accused allegedly conducted surveillance on the victim for months before carrying out the attack. Police also stated that money was arranged for the purchase of the SUV that was allegedly used in the crime. Several people have been arrested in connection with the case, including those accused of planning and executing the murder.
Following the arrests, the Telangana Congress Disciplinary Committee took action and suspended both Mahaboob Alam and Mujahid Alam Khan from the party. Congress leaders said the decision was taken in view of the serious nature of the allegations and the ongoing police investigation.
The murder of Khaja Moizuddin has sparked significant political and legal attention in Telangana because of the victim’s involvement in sensitive Waqf-related cases and the alleged involvement of a senior political leader. Police said further investigation is underway and additional evidence is being examined to establish the full extent of the conspiracy.
