Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy on Tuesday announced that the state government will deposit ₹9,000 crore into farmers' bank accounts within the next nine days under the Rythu Bharosa scheme, reaffirming the Congress government's commitment to supporting the agricultural sector.
Addressing a public meeting after releasing the latest tranche of Rythu Bharosa funds, the Chief Minister said the state has made adequate financial arrangements to ensure timely assistance to farmers. He also appealed to cultivators to adopt seven high-yielding paddy varieties recommended by the government in view of the prevailing drought conditions caused by deficient rainfall. Quality seeds have also been made available at 'Rythu Vedikas' across the state.
As part of the first phase of the latest disbursement, the government released ₹2,482 crore to more than 41 lakh farmers. According to the Chief Minister, the Congress government has so far deposited ₹27,000 crore into farmers' accounts and a total of ₹36,000 crore has been disbursed under the Rythu Bharosa scheme, including ₹7,000 crore released immediately after assuming office.
Revanth Reddy highlighted several measures taken by his government for the farming community over the last 30 months. He said farm loans worth ₹20,000 crore benefiting 25.35 lakh farmers had been waived, while ₹30,000 crore had been spent on free electricity for agriculture, ₹4,000 crore on bonuses for fine-variety paddy and ₹3,500 crore on farmer insurance schemes.
The Chief Minister also launched a political attack on the opposition Bharat Rashtra Samithi, accusing the previous government of leaving Telangana in a severe debt crisis. He challenged the BRS to a special Assembly debate on farmers' welfare and claimed that his administration has spent nearly ₹1.75 lakh crore on the agricultural sector since coming to power.
The latest announcement comes at a crucial time for Telangana's farmers as the state grapples with uncertain monsoon conditions and seeks to ensure adequate financial support ahead of the kharif cultivation season.
