Aurangabad, June 8: At least three people were killed and around 20 others injured after a tourist bus collided with a truck-trailer on National Highway 19 in Bihar’s Aurangabad district late on Sunday night. The tragic accident occurred near the Madanpur area and triggered a large-scale rescue operation by local authorities and emergency services.
According to police officials, the bus was carrying pilgrims from Andhra Pradesh who were returning from a religious trip when it rammed into a truck-trailer moving ahead on the highway. The impact of the collision was so severe that the front portion of the bus was completely crushed, trapping several passengers inside the vehicle.
Local residents rushed to the spot immediately after hearing the loud crash and informed the police. Rescue teams, along with highway patrol personnel, worked through the night to evacuate passengers from the damaged bus. The injured were shifted to nearby hospitals for treatment, while those in critical condition were referred to higher medical centres.
Authorities confirmed that three passengers died in the accident, while nearly 20 others sustained injuries of varying degrees. Several victims are reported to be in serious condition, raising concerns that the death toll could increase. Doctors are closely monitoring the injured and providing emergency medical care.
Preliminary investigations suggest that poor visibility, driver fatigue, or overspeeding may have contributed to the crash, though the exact cause is yet to be determined. Police have launched an inquiry and are examining the circumstances that led to the collision. Statements from the bus driver, surviving passengers, and eyewitnesses are also being recorded as part of the investigation.
Road accidents remain a major concern across Bihar and several other states, particularly on busy national highways where heavy commercial vehicles and passenger buses frequently share the same routes. Officials have repeatedly stressed the need for stricter adherence to traffic regulations and enhanced safety measures to reduce fatalities.
The district administration has expressed condolences to the families of those who lost their lives and assured all possible assistance to the injured. Efforts are underway to identify all victims and facilitate support for their families as the investigation into the accident continues.
