A court in Bhubaneswar has sentenced three persons to life imprisonment in connection with the 2014 murder of businessman Krutibas Parija, bringing closure to a case that had shocked Odisha more than a decade ago.
According to the prosecution, the businessman was murdered in November 2014 and his body was dismembered before being dumped at different locations in and around Bhubaneswar in an attempt to destroy evidence. The brutal nature of the crime had triggered widespread public outrage at the time.
Investigators had recovered a severed human head from the banks of the Daya River near Nathpur village under Dhauli police station limits during the probe. Further investigation later linked the remains to the missing businessman.
After a lengthy trial spanning nearly 12 years, the court found the three accused guilty of murder and criminal conspiracy. The judge awarded life imprisonment to all three convicts and also imposed financial penalties on them.
Police officials said the case involved extensive forensic examination, witness testimonies and technical evidence gathered over the years. Investigators had worked through multiple leads before establishing the sequence of events and identifying those involved in the crime.
Family members of the deceased welcomed the verdict and said they had waited many years for justice. The judgment is being seen as a significant development in one of Odisha’s most sensational murder cases.
