A tragic accident at an under-construction flyover linked to the Jewar International Airport project in Haryana's Faridabad claimed the lives of three workers and left another seriously injured on Thursday. The incident occurred near Panhera Khurd village under the Chhainsa police station area when a massive gantry crane being used for flyover construction suddenly overturned.

According to police officials, the crane collapsed onto a makeshift shelter and a cluster of shipping containers that were being used as site offices and resting areas for workers and construction staff. Several workers were present at the site when the heavy machinery came crashing down, trapping people beneath the debris. Rescue teams rushed to the spot after receiving information about the accident and launched an intensive operation to reach those trapped under the collapsed structure.

One worker was pulled out alive but suffered severe injuries, including serious damage to his legs. He was immediately shifted to a nearby hospital for treatment. Rescue personnel used cutting equipment and heavy machinery to remove parts of the collapsed crane and containers, as the equipment weighed several tonnes and made access difficult.

Eyewitnesses said adverse weather conditions may have contributed to the accident. The area reportedly experienced heavy rainfall and strong winds before the incident. Local residents claimed the construction site had become muddy and slippery due to the rain. After the weather improved, construction activities resumed, but the crane allegedly lost balance while lifting girders and toppled over. Around six to seven workers were believed to be at the site at the time.

Police, local administration officials, and construction company personnel joined hands in the rescue effort. Construction work at the site was suspended immediately following the accident. Authorities have begun an investigation to determine the exact cause of the collapse and whether any safety lapses were involved.

The Jewar Airport connectivity project is considered a major infrastructure initiative aimed at improving transport links between Faridabad and the upcoming international airport in Jewar, Uttar Pradesh. The accident has once again raised concerns over worker safety and adherence to construction protocols at large infrastructure projects across the country.
