Fresh controversy emerged during polling in West Bengal after a Trinamool Congress (TMC) candidate alleged that personnel of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) dragged a polling agent out of a booth in South 24 Parganas, further intensifying tensions surrounding the electoral process.

According to claims made by the candidate, the incident took place in the Canning area during voting hours. The allegation states that a polling agent representing the TMC was allegedly assaulted by CRPF personnel and forcibly removed from inside the booth premises. The candidate described the act as an instance of intimidation and interference in the polling process, raising serious concerns over the role of central forces deployed for election duty.

The incident quickly drew political attention, adding to a series of accusations exchanged between major parties during the ongoing phase of the election. The ruling party has repeatedly alleged that central forces are acting in a biased manner and targeting its workers and agents at polling stations. Similar concerns were also voiced earlier in the day by senior leadership, who accused central agencies of harassment and undue interference in voting.

On the other hand, opposition parties have rejected these claims, alleging that such accusations are attempts to divert attention from irregularities and local-level tensions. Reports from multiple areas during the same phase indicated sporadic violence, clashes, and allegations of voter intimidation from different sides, reflecting the highly charged political atmosphere in the state.

Election authorities have not yet officially confirmed the specific incident involving the polling agent. However, officials have reiterated that any complaint regarding misconduct by security personnel or disruption inside polling booths will be investigated thoroughly. The Election Commission has also maintained that strict action, including possible re-polling, can be ordered if any violation affecting free and fair voting is verified.

The broader context of the election shows heightened sensitivity, with heavy deployment of central forces across constituencies to ensure security. While authorities emphasize that these forces are meant to maintain neutrality and order, repeated allegations from political parties have raised questions and triggered debates over their conduct during polling.

As voting continues across the state, such incidents and claims are likely to remain under scrutiny, with all stakeholders closely watching the response of election officials to ensure transparency and fairness in the democratic process.
