Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Prakash Reddy has launched a sharp attack on the Trinamool Congress (TMC), claiming that the party is heading toward political irrelevance in West Bengal and alleging that former Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee is responsible for its ongoing disintegration.
Speaking amid the political turmoil within the TMC, Reddy said the party’s internal crisis was the result of its leadership style and organizational failures. He alleged that dissatisfaction among party leaders and legislators had grown over time, leading to divisions that are now becoming increasingly visible. According to him, the developments in Bengal indicate that the TMC is losing its grip on the state's political landscape.
His remarks come at a time when the TMC is facing one of its most challenging phases in recent years. Reports suggest that a large section of legislators has distanced itself from the party leadership, triggering a major internal revolt. In response to the crisis, the TMC recently dissolved all its committees and frontal organizations in West Bengal as part of a major organizational restructuring effort.
Reddy argued that these extraordinary measures reflect the depth of the crisis within the party. He claimed that the current situation is not merely a temporary disagreement but evidence of a larger collapse of confidence in the TMC leadership. He further alleged that Mamata Banerjee’s political approach and decision-making style contributed significantly to the present turmoil.
The BJP has maintained that political developments in Bengal demonstrate a growing shift in public sentiment. Party leaders have repeatedly asserted that the state is witnessing a realignment of political forces following the recent assembly election, in which the BJP emerged as the dominant force in the state.
Meanwhile, the TMC leadership has rejected claims of a collapse and has accused its opponents of attempting to weaken the party. Mamata Banerjee recently alleged that there is an organized effort to destroy the TMC and called on party workers to remain united during the ongoing political challenges.
Political observers believe that the coming weeks will be crucial for the future of the TMC, as the party seeks to contain internal dissent and rebuild its organizational structure. Whether the restructuring effort succeeds or further divisions emerge will likely shape the next chapter of West Bengal politics.
