A track car ran successfully on the newly built railway line between Agartala, India and Akhaura, Bangladesh on Tuesday, August 23, 2023. The successful run of the track car clears the way for a trial run of a railway engine between the two cities in the near future.

The 17.62-kilometer railway line is part of the India-Bangladesh Friendship Railway project, which will eventually connect Kolkata, India to Dhaka, Bangladesh. The project is scheduled to be finished in 2025.

The successful run of the track car is a major milestone for the project. It is a sign that the project is on track and that it will soon be possible to travel by train between Kolkata and Dhaka. This will be a major boost for economic and cultural ties between the two countries.

In addition to the track car, a number of other tests have been conducted on the railway line, including the testing of the ballast, the signaling system, and the overhead electrification system. All of these tests have been successful, which further indicates that the project is on track.

The trial run of a railway engine between Agartala and Akhaura is expected to take place in the coming weeks. Once this is successfully completed, the railway line will be open to passenger traffic. This is a major step forward in the India-Bangladesh Friendship Railway project and it is a sign that the two countries are committed to improving connectivity between them.
